As its names suggests, the Life Insurance Division of the NFO focuses on resolving complaints brought by consumers in relation to long-term insurance policies. These include life insurance, funeral cover, and health and investment policies, among others. Typical causes of complaint with life/long-term insurance contracts include service levels, declined claims, lapsing of policies, non-disclosure, benefit amounts payable, the identity of beneficiaries and mis-selling of policies. These complaints may be brought by the estates or beneficiaries after policyholders have passed.
The Life Insurance Division of the NFO has jurisdiction over its member insurers, and is funded by them. This is no way compromises our impartiality – our findings are based on probabilities, the onus of proof, applicable legal principles considerations of equity and fair play. The fact that the Life Insurance Division and indeed all divisions of the NFO are funded by their members enables each division to offer ombudsman services to consumers at no charge. Crucially, this removes what would otherwise be a potential barrier to entry for consumers requiring the assistance of the NFO.
Dispute resolution services offered by the Life Insurance Division of the NFO include Lapsed Policies | Declined Claims | Benefit Calculations | Life Policies | Funeral Policies | Disability Policies, and more.
